Michael Lewis

Mike Lewis is the Founder and Executive Director of the Canadian Centre for Community Renewal. Lewis is an author, practitioner, researcher, educator and organizer. He has a diverse base of experience building businesses, CED organizations, national and international networks and designing practical practitioner focused tools and curriculum. His focus on community resilience and empowerment has let him to interaction across many sectors affection community interests - mining, food, fisheries, aquaculture and forestry, an area of work that included the presidency of two forestry firms involving joint ventures with First Nations. Between 2006-2015 Mike took on as one of his projects the role of lead investigator of the BC-Alberta Social Economy Research Alliance, a coalition involving 8 universities and a diverse range of cooperative, social enterprise and CED networks in Canada, the U.S. and the U.K. During that period he co- authored with U.K based Pat Conaty (New Economics Foundation and Coops UK) The Resilience Imperative: Cooperative Transitions to a Steady State Economy. Connecting the dots between leading innovations in the food, energy, land tenure, affordable shelter, social care and finance sectors, this book holds the tension between the complex, despair inducing context we are challenged to navigate and strategic transition pathways that foster a realistic basis for hope.
